Shopify Black Friday Checklist for Australian Stores in 2026

November 2026 ecommerce guide

Shopify Black Friday checklist for Australian stores: fix the buying journey before the sale.

Black Friday is on 27 November 2026. Before you increase traffic, make sure your offer, product pages, mobile checkout, shipping information and follow-up emails all tell the same story.

More traffic will expose the gaps you already have.

A promotion can bring people to your Shopify store. It cannot make a confusing product page, a broken code or an unclear delivery promise convert. In November, I would spend the first hour buying from my own store on a phone before spending more on ads.

This guide is a working checklist for Australian ecommerce owners who need to prepare a sale now. It covers the decisions that affect the customer from the first ad or email through to checkout and delivery.

The quick test

Choose one featured product. Follow the exact path a shopper will take from your campaign link to checkout. If the price, eligibility, delivery timing or next step is unclear, fix it before launch.

Where to start

Three checks that protect your November spend.

Work through these before you build a bigger campaign calendar.

The offer

Make the promotion easy to understand

Choose eligible products, sale dates and exclusions. Check your margin after discounts, freight and advertising costs, then test the actual checkout price.

The journey

Follow the customer on mobile

Open the landing page, select a variant, add to cart, apply the offer and reach payment. Read shipping and returns as a new customer would.

The measurement

Know what a sale looks like

Check purchase tracking and campaign links before changing budgets. A busy dashboard is not the same as profitable orders.

1. Decide what your Black Friday offer is actually for

A storewide discount is simple to communicate, but it can cut margin on products that would sell anyway. A selected collection, bundle, gift with purchase or threshold offer may suit a different catalogue. Look at product contribution after cost of goods, transaction fees, freight and expected ad spend before picking a headline percentage.

Write one offer sheet with the products included, start and end time in your store's timezone, discount rules, stackability, stock limits and exclusions. Use the same wording on the homepage, collection, ads and emails.

Test the real basket.

Place a test order with a featured product, a non-eligible product and a relevant shipping address. Check the discount, free shipping threshold, taxes and confirmation email. Fix any mismatch before announcing the sale.

Shopify's seasonal sale guidance includes discounts, sale collections, policies and abandoned checkout recovery. Use it as a setup reference, then make the customer-facing offer specific to your store.

2. Check the storefront on a phone, not only in the theme editor

Open the campaign link on a real phone. Is the sale visible without scrolling past several banners? Can a shopper understand the offer, see the product image, select a variant and reach the cart without fighting a popup?

If the mobile experience needs work, fix the friction that stops an order first. A whole theme redesign is rarely the fastest November action. ShopBuild's Shopify implementation support can be scoped around the sections and flows that need attention.

3. Make featured product pages answer buying questions

Sale traffic often lands on a product page, not the homepage. Each featured item should have a clear title, accurate variants, useful images, current availability and enough detail to decide whether it is right. Replace bare supplier copy with specifics such as size, ingredients, materials, compatibility or what is included.

For giftable products, answer who it suits and whether it will arrive in time. For technical products, make fit and compatibility easy to check. For skincare, fragrance or handmade goods, explain the usage or attributes that buyers usually ask about. Add relevant FAQs where the answers differ by product.

This also gives search engines a better understanding of the page. Google's ecommerce Search guidance covers product data and site structure. ShopBuild's ecommerce SEO service looks at these pages alongside collections and customer intent.

4. Put shipping, returns and cutoffs where shoppers can find them

Australian shoppers need an honest delivery expectation, especially when a Black Friday order is intended as a December gift. Show dispatch time separately from carrier transit time. State the free shipping threshold and any exclusions in plain language. Link the current policy near the buying decision.

Check whether your sale changes fulfilment capacity or supplier lead times. Do not promise an arrival date that the carrier or your stock position cannot support. If you sell across states, review the experience with more than one postcode.

One useful question to answer.

“If I order this today in Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth, what exactly happens next?” The answer should be clear from the product page, cart and confirmation email.

5. Align Google Shopping and Merchant Center with the sale

For a product campaign, check that the feed reflects the current product, price, availability and landing page. A promotion visible in an ad but missing at checkout can frustrate buyers and cause Merchant Center issues.

Eligible Australian merchants can use Merchant Center Promotions, but Google reviews the offer and its implementation. Submit it early enough for review, then verify the correct products and code. Google's Promotions setup guidance says to submit at least 24 hours before the scheduled start; do not leave this for launch morning.

If feed errors or disapprovals are already present, fix those before increasing Shopping or Performance Max spend. See our Merchant Center guide for Shopify for the underlying product and policy checks.

6. Plan Klaviyo around the customer, not a stack of reminders

Use a short sequence with distinct purposes: early access or announcement, the live offer, a useful product edit, and a genuine final reminder. Segment where the customer history makes a difference, such as recent purchasers, engaged subscribers or people interested in a category. Keep stock, discount and shipping claims current across every send.

Check welcome, browse and abandoned checkout flows before the sale. A flow with an outdated welcome discount or old product block can contradict the campaign. Review exclusions, consent and engagement so messages reach the right people. Klaviyo's engagement guidance is useful when planning seasonal send frequency.

ShopBuild offers Klaviyo setup and email marketing support for Shopify stores, including connected flows and campaigns.

7. Send ads to the right page and measure purchases

A search for a specific product or offer should land on a matching product or collection, with the same price and eligibility shown in the ad. A broad campaign pointing every shopper to the homepage adds another decision before they can buy.

Before increasing budget, place a test order and confirm that your conversion setup records the purchase with a sensible value. Review search terms, product eligibility and landing pages; then adjust spend using actual orders and margin, not clicks alone. For a review of campaigns and tracking, see ShopBuild's Google Ads support.

After the weekend, compare new and returning customers, product mix, average order value, gross margin and fulfilment workload. A strong sale should still make business sense after the discount.

A workable November 2026 timeline

1

Early November: audit and decide

Choose the offer, check margins and stock, fix obvious mobile and product page problems, and review the feed and purchase tracking.

2

Mid-November: build and test

Prepare the collection, homepage message, emails and ad assets. Test discounts, checkout, shipping and confirmation messages with real scenarios.

3

27–30 November: monitor the sale

Black Friday is Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Monitor stock, ad spend, support questions and checkout issues; change only what the evidence supports.

4

After the event: follow through

Remove expired messaging, confirm orders and delivery expectations, review profit and customer retention, then record the lessons for the next campaign.

The ShopBuild view

Fix the buying journey before scaling the campaign.

A clear offer matters, but the sale depends on the whole path. Start with the product page, checkout and delivery promise, then connect the channels and measure the orders that result.

  • Protect margin after discounts and freight
  • Test the offer on a real phone
  • Keep product pages and stock accurate
  • Match ads and Merchant Center to the landing page
  • Check Klaviyo flows for outdated offers
  • State realistic shipping and returns
  • Review orders and profit, not clicks alone
Black Friday FAQs

Black Friday questions from Shopify store owners.

Practical answers for Australian merchants preparing a November campaign.

When is Black Friday 2026 in Australia?

Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. You can choose a shorter or longer campaign, but state the exact start and end time on your store.

How do I set up a Black Friday sale on Shopify?

Choose eligible products and an offer that works for your margin, configure the discount and sale collection, update customer-facing messaging, and place test orders on mobile and desktop before launch. Confirm shipping and return information as part of the setup.

Should I discount my whole Shopify store?

Not automatically. A selected collection, bundle, gift with purchase or threshold offer may protect margin better. Compare contribution after product cost, freight and acquisition spend, then choose an offer that fits your catalogue.

What should I fix before running Black Friday Google Ads?

Check purchase tracking, product feed status, accurate prices, clear landing pages, current stock and a tested checkout. If using Merchant Center Promotions, submit the offer early enough for review and ensure the checkout reflects it.

Which Klaviyo emails matter most for a November sale?

Start with a clear launch message, relevant product follow-up and a truthful final reminder. Review abandoned checkout and welcome flows so they do not send outdated offers during the campaign. Segment using customer behaviour where it improves relevance.

Can ShopBuild help if Black Friday is only a few weeks away?

Yes. A free 15-minute Ecommerce Fit Check can identify the immediate issue and whether a focused audit or scoped implementation is suitable. The call is an introduction, not a full technical audit or campaign build.
